Besides miles and miles of beaches, the Wilmington area is home to many historic sights, lots of family entertainment, a thriving arts and cultural scene, many different kinds of outdoor activities, top spots for shopping and dining, and of course is home to Hollywood East where many commercials, tv shows, and movies are filmed around the area. Recently voted America's Best Riverfront, visitors can stroll the newly expanded and scenic Riverwalk on the Cape Fear River and take in the downtown Historic River District while stopping along the way to shop, dine, and check out the nightlife. If hitting the beach is more your scene, beach fun can be had from Wrightsville Beach to Carolina Beach on down to Kure Beach. Feeling adventurous? Head a little farther south and take the ferry over to the quaint seaside town of Southport or ferry over and check out Old Baldy Lighthouse on Bald Head Island.
